“He has to be taller than me.”
Words I sometimes hear when women tell me about the perfect man.
They think it’s a dealbreaker.
It's not.
It’s just a preference.
Or something more.
Maybe it’s patriarchy.
Why do you want a man to be taller than you?
SO MANY QUESTIONS!
Is it unladylike to be tall?
Does a short man make a woman look manly?
AND OH MY GOD!
What if he weighs less than you!?

A whole lot of patriarchal crap that steers us away from great guys.
There’s no rule that says to be feminine we need to be smaller than the man.
Or quieter. Or less of a leader. Or whatever.
But I know you might be guilty of thinking like this. I used to do it too. I vividly remember wondering what people would think when I married a guy who was 4” shorter than me.
And all those thoughts just seemed like common sense. The way of the world.
But I was wrong.
With too many dealbreakers, I’d never be happily married now.
